Operations Forester

Overview

  • Develop and execute:

    • Harvest plans

    • Road construction layouts

    • Silviculture strategies, including site preparation, reclamation, planting, spacing, brushing, and thinning

  • Supervise and conduct field assessments to monitor forest regeneration and growth performance

  • Oversee timber harvesting, road construction, and regeneration operations

  • Ensure compliance with:

    • BC forestry regulations

    • Environmental standards

    • SFI certification requirements

  • Utilize forestry software including:

    • ArcGIS

    • Phoenix

    • RESULTS

  • Collaborate with:

    • Government agencies

    • Indigenous communities

    • Other key stakeholders

  • Prepare:

    • Operational reports

    • Silviculture budgets

    • Funding applications

  • Support research and innovation in forest management to enhance forest resilience and productivity

  • Assist with other duties as required

Qualifications

 

  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with the Forest Professionals BC (FPBC)

  • 5+ years of relevant forestry experience (preference for BC Coastal experience)

  • Knowledge of Great Bear Rainforest Order is an asset

  • Proficiency in developing and executing silviculture prescriptions

  • Strong skills in budgeting and proforma management

  • Physically fit and comfortable working in coastal terrain and remote areas

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills

  • Passion for learning and professional development

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

  • Valid Basic First Aid with Transport Endorsement (preferred)

  • Commitment to safety and land stewardship principles

$115,000 - $135,000 Annually
